Occupy the Land UnConference workshops, Saturday June 2nd!

This Saturday, June 2nd, we’ll be proudly participating in the New York City Community Garden Coalition’s Occupy the Land UnConference! We’re hosting two workshops at our urban farm and native plant garden:

1) Native Plants in City Gardens will be conducted by SF advisory board member Chris Kreussling (aka Flatbush Gardener). Chris will talk about the benefits of gardening with native plants, even in New York City. Weather permitting, he will lead tours of Sustainable Flatbush’s Native Plant Garden at the Flatbush Reformed Church, now growing into its second year. Workshop schedule: 9:30am – 12:30pm

2) Urban Composting: Composting in your backyard or apartment will be taught by Master Composter Kady Ferguson. Kady will share her knowledge and experience with developing Sustainable Flatbush’s Community Compost Project at the Flatbush Reformed Church, where we accept kitchen waste dropoffs from neighborhood residents and from the Church’s emergency food program. So far this year our Compost Project has diverted over 1,000 pounds of organic waste from the landfill! Workshop schedule:11:00am – 1:00pm
