REWIND: Livable Streets + 2010

Of the four Sustainable Flatbush initiatives, Livable Streets advocates for increased access to communal spaces that prioritize people over cars. Throughout 2010, we have sponsored a variety of projects and events addressing different issues and aspects related to public space, urban planning, and transportation. Here’s a brief recap of what we’ve been up to!

Select Bus Service Open House November 15th: Success!

The Select Bus Service Open House at Brooklyn College was a success! The overall feel for the meeting was informal. Story boards of the project were placed on the edges of the room, leaving room for people to browse and look over the design.

Flatbush Avenue Congested Corridors public meeting

This coming Monday night, June 28th, presents a great opportunity for local Livable Streets advocates to have some input on what the future design of Flatbush Avenue will look like!

An Evening of Streetfilms on June 10th!

Sustainable Flatbush invites you to celebrate BikeBKLN by visualizing a future of Livable Streets!

I’ve received a number of inquiries lately from folks wondering where to recycle CFL bulbs locally (the bulbs contain a small amount of mercury, and shouldn’t be thrown out with the trash). This Wednesday the answer is at Brooklyn Green Drinks, hosted by Center for […]

Public Meeting to discuss Ocean/Parkside improvements

Our neighbors to the north at Hawthorne Street blog in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens (part of Flatbush? You decide…) have been discussing the horrifically dangerous entrance to Prospect Park at Ocean and Parkside Avenues for some months now, and have formed a local Livable Streets group called […]

Brooklyn Blogfest 2008

photo by Flatbush Gardener When I attended last year’s Brooklyn Blogfest at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Sustainable Flatbush had been online for only a few weeks. Most of the names and people and language of the blogging world were very new to […]

Petition: Bring “Gold Standard” Streets to Brooklyn!

This afternoon I received word of a petition supporting a re-design of Vanderbilt Avenue (Prospect Heights) to include separated bike lanes. By providing designated space for cars, bicycles and pedestrians, this design would meet what the Department of Transportation calls the “gold standard” for safety. […]
