PROJECTS

Sustainable Flatbush began in 2006 by producing community events (workshops, film screenings, etc.) geared toward raising awareness and promoting discussion of sustainability topics in our Brooklyn neighborhood. These events grew in frequency and scope during 2007, and our activities have grown to include advocacy and education, always responding to local interests and needs. Our work has included sponsoring the neighborhood’s first electronics recycling event, creating a community garden where apartment dwellers can grow their own vegetables, and installing a temporary park in a parking space. We collaborate with groundbreaking NYC environmental organizations such as Lower East Side Ecology Center, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Solar One, and Transportation Alternatives, to mobilize Flatbush and its residents toward a sustainable future.
