Saturday, November 22, 2008
12 noon – 3pm
P.S. 217 Playground
(1100 Newkirk Avenue at Coney Island Avenue)
Flatbush, Brooklyn
Directions: Q train to Newkirk Ave or F to 18th Ave, or B68 bus to Coney Island Avenue and Newkirk. You will find the FreeMeet underneath the scaffolding next to the playground.
WHY:
New Yorkers discard some 12,000 tons of waste each day that is exported to landfills and incinerators in other states! Here’s your chance to help NYC reduce waste and keep our environment clean by finding new homes for your old stuff, and getting some things you can use in the process. Leftovers will be donated or recycled to every extent possible.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring unwanted clothing, housewares and other reusable items to share* or simply bring a tote bag to fill. Bring friends and family too!
Electronics Recycling!
Bring electronics to be reused, recycled and redistributed through Rattech, who will accept old computers, electronic equipment, printers, monitors, CD’s, toner / ink cartridges, etc.
Got wire hangers?
Bring ’em to the FreeMeet so we can hang clothes and recycle the hangers afterwards.
Bring used BRITA FILTERS to donate to the Take Back the Filter campaign

Will post this our school blog. Our media arts teacher Jenny Hobson has piloted a Recycling Squad at PS 119. Our link is http://blog.ps119amersfort.com
I will also let the PTA know so they can bring kids. Let’s hope it isn’t too chilly.
Fantastic!! You and Jenny should also meet Micki and Coquille from Educating Tomorrow ( http://www.educatingtomorrow.org ); they’ve just started the UFT Green Schools Committee, which works on schools recycling and green curriculum development. The next meeting is November 20th at the UFT office.
Hi, I have a 30″ tubed TV, that weighs about 90 pounds. If I can get it there, would you accept it for recycling?
I will ask the electronics recycling guru…
It’s pouring rain! Is there a rain location?
No… but it’s also NEXT Saturday! 🙂
Charles, the electronics recycling guru says… Bring It!
Awesome!! Will be there with bells on.
Hi Anne! A reader emailed me asking if I knew where the clothing donation bins were in Bed-Stuy. The reader has a lot of clothing that she wants to get rid of. I posted the question on my blog, but I also did a plug for the Flatbush Freemeet. Hopefully this will add more donations to the pile. 🙂
Thanks Petra! I saw your post last night. I hope your reader finds us! Maybe a Bed Stuy Freemeet next? 😉
