Cortelyou Greenmarket opens next weekend!

The Cortelyou Greenmarket has been getting bigger and better every year; this season will be the longest yet. Here’s the news from 2009 Market Manager Alison Whaley:

Cortelyou Greenmarket Returns on Sunday, May 3rd!

Thanks to popular demand, the Cortelyou Greenmarket is back for its sixth year! Every Sunday, May through December, this market provides the diverse Cortelyou community with a bounty of fresh picked fruits and vegetables, beautiful plants and flowers, grass-fed meat and dairy products, wild-caught fish, amazing eggs, and delicious baked goods. We are also planning fun, free events such as cooking demonstrations, raffles, and kids & family friendly activities all season long. Come talk to the farmers who grow your food, meet your neighbors, bring a friend, and taste the difference at your neighborhood Greenmarket!

The Cortelyou Greenmarket is located at Cortelyou Road and Rugby Road, and is open from 8am – 4pm every Sunday, May through December.

*EBT/Food Stamps (June ? November) and WIC & Senior Farmers Market Nutrition checks are accepted

Greenmarket is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Program of the Council on the Environment of New York City.  Greenmarket’s mission is to promote regional agriculture by connecting local farmers with city residents ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to locally grown, foraged, caught and baked products. Shopping at Greenmarket is not only good for you, it’s good for regional economies and helps to preserves farmland, support clean water and soil, encourage food security and diversity, and contributes to neighborhood revitalization by providing a safe and fun community gathering place.

  • There’s so many Greenmarkets reopening within the next few weeks. I’m glad. There’s so much to do there, not just shop for healthy food. And besides, stuff like food stamps are accepted, so people can eat well for less.

  • My 4-year old and I were there last weekend despite the rain –and it was great! Can’t wait for Sunday!

  • Hey everybody, I saw this blog and I just wanted to add some information about a MetroCard Deal at all 50 Greenmarkets throughout NYC. I work for MTA New York City Transit and we partnered with Greenmarkets, who are offering a free reusable bag when you show your MetroCard to the vendor. You have to hurry, though, only the first 50 people to show their MetroCard will receive a bag. For a list of all the Greenmarkets in NYC, visit http://www.cenyc.org and use Trip Planner to get directions there.

  • I was there yesterday, and so nice to see fresh produce, eggs, meat, cheese and baked goods just a short train ride away from my home in Midwood. Purchased some gourds and delicious pecan pie and cookies.
Nothing like pure, unadulterated food – without preservatives! It was a really nice surprise, and capped off a perfectly beautiful Autumn day. Brooklynites – take advantage of it!
