Buy Nothing Day Potluck 2014

Not into the Black Friday shopping madness? Neither are we! How about a community potluck instead?

Join us for Sustainable Flatbush’s 4th annual Buy Nothing Day gathering! Buy Nothing Day offers an alternative to the consumerist excess of Black Friday: a chance to unshop, unspend, and unwind. At Sustainable Flatbush we celebrate this special occasion by keeping it local and providing a venue where neighbors can get to know each other by sharing food and conversation. If you’re intrigued (or relieved!) by the idea of going “cold turkey” on consumption for 24 hours… this event is for you!

Potluck Feast! (photo by Keka Marzagao) Thanks to All Souls Bethlehem Church in Kensington for providing a welcoming space for the festivities. Doors open at 6pm, at 7pm we’ll have a brief presentation about the evening’s theme and also learn more about Neighborgoods, a Brooklyn-based network that facilitates sharing of household items at no cost. (Sustainable Flatbush has loaned Neighborgoods our entire inventory of gardening tools, now available for personal and community greening projects!) Plus, live music at 8pm!
Bring friends and family, plus food or drinks to share. We also encourage you to BYO utensils/dishes to reduce waste.
